Set in the aftermath of the Clone Wars, the novel follows the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has taken on a new identity and gone into hiding on Tatooine. As he struggles to adapt to his new life on the harsh desert planet, he becomes entangled in a local conflict between farmers and raiders. Meanwhile, he must also confront his own grief and guilt over the events of the war, as well as his growing sense of isolation and the knowledge that his former apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, has become Darth Vader.
